What are your goals?

"A goal is a dream with a deadline.”
 -Napoleon Hill

Give a short description about a time you did not reach your goal because there was a time period by which you had to adhere to.

No less than two paragraphs.

  1. One goal that I did not complete was to make it back in the newspaper. My first year of varsity basketball I was in the newspaper, I remembered how proud I felt when I found out I was starting for varsity. It may only have been to let the people in Gary know who was starting but it meant something. I called my mom, I almost crying because I was so happy, it is a feeling that you can never forget. It was so special to me because I had to bet out sophomores and juniors for that starting five spot. I worked hard for it and my coach said I deserved it. After you feel that feeling for the first time, you want to feel it again. It was not even the Good jobs by everyone; it was finally being recognized for all my hard work.
All that season I try so hard to do things right. I came to practice every day I worked out hard and did what I was told. I stayed in my spot tried not to foul, never argue with my coach. It did payoff I became a better player, it also helped me to realize that you normally have to do something special to make it in the newspaper. So I have no reason to beat myself up about not completing my goal. I may have run out of time last year but I am only a sophomore so I always can try to reach it this year.

  2. One of my most important goals that i did not accomplish was making straight A's. In my mind I knew I had the ability to make it, but I did not put in the work that was required. As I recall it was my freshman year of high school. I knew I had to start off the year strong. I studied everyday ,did all my assignments, and stayed focus.
Once report cards came around I was very excited. I knew that I had nothing to be worried about, but I also knew I wanted to make straight A's. We waited in line for no more than 5mins. Once we got to the front where i would receive my report card , I remember becoming very nervous. First my dad looked at it than I followed . I knew it was a great one because he said he was very proud. I scanned down my grades with a huge grin. Until I seen i had two B's. I was kind of disappointed in myself, but I promised to do better next time.

  3. Once about two years ago I wasn't able to reach a goal. My goal was to win the Academic Bowl team tournament for the school. The team and I had made it to the final round and we were very excited. Before the competition we all went outside and prayed. We all thought that we were mentally ready, but we weren't. The team and I came bag in, took our seats and waited for them to call our names. We were all a little nervous, but walked on the stage proudly.
Next, when we got on the stage you could tell that we were nervous. For the first 10 questions there was dead silence from the Thea Bowman team. Then around question 15 we got into the flow of answering questions. After the first round we were up by five points. The second round came and the other teams were slowly catching up to us. Then out of nowhere we froze up. Sadly, our goal of winning the tournament ended. Lastly, that lose taught us a valuable lesson, to always stay calm and give it your best at all times.

  5. A goal that i did not accomplish is to get a pass plus on my eca. When it was time to take the eca i was very nervous. Im not good in any math or science classes so passing was a big thing to me. Taking the eca and passing meant alot to me. If i passed i was going to be very exited.
When i opened the test book the questions seemed very easy. I wasnt as nervous as before. I was able to finish the whole test. When the teacher got our scores back she told the students what they had got. Unfortunately i was on a college tour at the time. When i got back , i had finals . I wasnt nervous of taking finals because i had studied for it . When i got through taking finals i got it graded. I got an A. When i got done i found out i didnt get a pass plus but i got a 502. I was excited that i pass . Thats a time i didnt accomplish a goal. This year i will try harder too get a pass plus on my eca

  6. Was there ever a time when I didn't meet a goal? Yes, I remember one time I was unable to complete my goal due to the timing. It all happened in the sixth grade. We were Assigned a four page essay. The essay was due in the time of three days. As you could imagine in the sixth grade how did i react? Well I thought it was basically mission impossible. I did not think I could meet those standards at all!
I tried to talk to my teacher about giving us an extension. As you can imagine that just didn't go as planed at all. So I was forced to try the assignment, to either pass or fail. My goal as you could probably guess was to meet the requirements. At the end of those three days could you imagine what I came up with? Hardly nothing, I came up with only three stinking pages. So did I meet my goal? NO!

  7. One goal that I didn't complete was when I didn't get the best form trophy for my tae kwon do testing. I remember that I had been practicing for that form for weeks. My instructor had said testing wasn't going to be until that following Friday. So I decided to take a break and continue to practice. Until one day my instructor came up to me and said that I wouldn't be doing that form I would be doing another one. I was very surprised and shocked that he let me know on such short notice. But I knew that I had the ability to do it. The weeks leading up to testing all I did was practice on that form. When Friday finally came I was kind of nervous and excited at the same time. It was finally my turn to get on the mat and do my form. When I got on the mat and started doing my form all of a sudden I froze. Until I eventually got my thoughts together and knew what I was suppose to be doing. So eventually I finished and finished strong. When my instructor came and finally annouce the results, I knew that I didn't meet my goal because I did't get the best form trophy. But I knew if I worked harder next time and did better then I would get it on next testing.-Monae Jackson

  8. I was never good in science, but last year i was determined to pass biology with straight A's. For the first few weeks of school i went home and read and went over everything we went over in class. Even when i was doing that i was not getting an A on the test i didnt understand what was going on,until i realized that i was just reading i really didnt understand what i was reading. so i started asking my mom for help, to go over things with me. My grades started showing that i was improving so i guess i got a little bit to happy and stoped doing what i was doing. the only time i had decided to go over the things that we went over in class was when grades was almost due.this year i am going to reach my goal no matter what happens i am going to get straight A's in chemistry.

  9. Last school year, it was my goal to have perfect attendance for my freshman year. I wanted to start off my high school years with better habits than in previous years. However, due to family losses I had to go to Indianapolis for a short period of time. Even though I knew I wouldn't achieve my goal, I continued for the second semester. Unfortunately, the exact thing happened causing me to miss a lot of days and towards the end of the year, I gave up on the goal and missed even more school and got more tardies. I'm not proud of the fact that I gave up later in the year and this year, I refuse to go down the same road. So I am striving for perfect attendance this school year.

  10. A goal that I tried to accomplish one year was to hatch a robin egg that my dad found. He had found it under a small tree in front of our house. The egg was small and blue. I had decided to take the egg and keep it safe. I knew the mom wouldn't come and get it, so I studied on how to hatch an egg, from the computer and one of my vet games. I wrapped the small egg up in a blue towel, and for warmth I used my own body heat, by holding it close to me. I had it for weeks, making sure it was ok; I never knew what I was going to do after it hatched, but I was excited.
Soon the egg started to hatch. With each day it would crack more, and the yolk in the egg started to come out. It wasn’t the prettiest thing to watch but it was interesting. I was finally going to have a pet bird, or so I hoped. The reason why my goal wasn’t accomplished was because I let my dad do what he suggested himself. He told me that a better way for it to hatch without me carrying it around was to put it in a plastic Easter egg filled with cotton, and put it in the sun light. Of course he put the top on it, I was too young or foolish to not know that the egg would suffocate and die, and it did. After it had died, I cried because of it, and that was one goal that I can never accomplish. – E’Lexus Rodgers

  11. Last school year, my major goal was to make all As on my final report card. When I got my final report card, I did not come close to meeting my goal. My grades were good overall but the grades I got were the same throughout the entire school year. I wanted to show some improvement by the end of the school year.
Now that I am thinking about my goal for last year, I know why i did not achieve my goal. The reason why I did not reach my goal was because I paid girls more attention than my own education. I do not blame females for my failure, but instead I blame myself. If you have a goal, you really want to achieve, you will not let anything stand in the way from you achieving it.

  12. My last year of middle school , I decided I wanted to be class clown. I wanted to make everyone laugh and act up with me , little did I know I was messing up not only my future but my goals that I had set .As school began to progress I got worse and worse. I saw that by me acting up in class I started to get suspended , detentions, and almost got to the point of title twenty. I was suppose to play ball , but i was suspended so much i never made it to a game. Finally, the school got tired of my nonsense and put me on out .

In closing, I was not able to get back in school. Many people was let down by me ,because they knew I was better than that and that I was messing up my goals for life. So now i am at home instead of school , doing nothing with my life. After the summer ended, schools back in but wait I have no transcript , no schools want me , because i am marked as a trouble maker from my school records. So I ended up at a school that was not for me and had to sit out a year of basketball because i had broken my finger. It was if God himself was sending me a sign saying "hay Davon its time to get it together", and after a while i did just that. So now here I am at Thea Bowman in all Honor classes, what a turn out!

  13. One time I wanted to finish my required reading by the deadline. I had read three books already and I needed one more book to complete my goal for the year. Once i had taken the test, I passed it, but I couldn't get the credit for it because the deadline was over.
I now know that if I want my full credit, I should do it all at the beginning and not wait untill the end to do all of my work and try to catch up.

  14. There was a time when i was in middle school and didnt care about anything but hanging with friends and doing my own thing. Which i should have been focused on my school work and and keeping my behavior in check. Yes, my mom got a call almost every week about my behavior or my grades. I'm not very proud of it all and I shouldnt be.
So towards the end of the year, i had a talk with my closest aunt and she knocked some sense into me. So she made this promise to me if i got all A's and B's she would pay me $50.00. When she told me that i had decided to put school first. I had one more quarter to go and in most of my classes i had two letter grades to reach my goal. At the end i succeeded and got my $50.00. I also realized that my school work comes first and ive been the honor roll ever since.

  15. A time I did not reach my goal was last year. I had a goal to receive all A's on my report card for one semester. I was sure I could achieve this goal with no problem, all I needed to do was try. I was already making mostly A's and B's without even putting forth my best effort. In my mind, I had it all in the bag.

I tried hard in Biology, it had been my worst subject all year. I completed every assignment I was asked to. Therefore, there was no doubt in my mind I couldn't achieve making all A's. Since, I tried so hard in Biology, I forgot about the one class that came so naturally to me. When I saw my report card, I was ecstatic. I had all A's. Then, I looked down a little farther to see I had received a B+ in the subject I had made an A in all year, Geometry.

  16. A time when I could not meet a goal because of time was when I as younger. My friends and I were saving money for my for my other friend's birthday gift. I procrastinated for the longest. I waited until the week before to start working for my money. Getting money from my parents was not easy when I was younger. I actually had to work for it other than just getting it weekly like I do now.
Since I was smaller I could not do that many different chore. Every chore in my house only earned you oh so much money. By the end of the week I only had about ten dollars. I felt disappointed in myself. It was the first time i had ever failed at a goal. Even though my friends were mad at me they let me know it was okay. how ever they wont let me live this down to this day.

  17. A time i didn't reach my goal was last school year. My goal was to get all A's but i didn't get it. I tried my hardest to get an A in every class but it was getting hard. The harder it got the less i tried , sorry to say. I would not get a chance to do homework because of the sports i played and after practices i would be extremely tired and wouldn't do the assignment. I mean i didn't fail any classes i just didn't get the reach my goal .
